IIM Calcutta MBA course is best in India, among top 20 in the world

In the Financial Times Masters in Management Rankings 2019, IIM Calcutta is ahead of IIM Ahmedabad, which ranks 21, and IIM Bengaluru, which bags 44th slot.

New Delhi: The IIM Calcutta’s two-year MBA programme has bagged 17th position globally in the Financial Times Masters in Management Rankings 2019. It is a jump of six places — from 23rd rank last year.

In the rankings released Monday night, the Indian Institute of Management, Calcutta has been adjudged the best business school in the country.

The institute pipped IIM Ahmedabad, which has been ranked 21st globally (down from 19th rank in 2018), and IIM Bangalore, which has taken the 44th slot. Swiss business school University of St Gallen maintained the number one position among the top 100 institutions for yet another year.

The parameters that were considered for the rankings include value for money, career services, employability among students within three months of completing the course, involvement of women in the Institute’s board, international student intake, international mobility ranking, international course experience, faculty with doctorates, languages, course fee (local currency), course length (months), number of students enrolled in 2018-19 and company internships.

Beat Indian compatriots on a number of parameters

According to an official statement by IIM Calcutta, the institute bettered its nearest Indian compatriots on salary, weighted salary, salary percentage increase, career progress ranking, involvement of international faculty, inclusion of international board members, percentage of female faculty and student gender diversity ratio.

“The FT Ranking for 2019 is a reiteration of the leadership positions that IIM Calcutta holds in the global management education landscape. With the internationalisation of our curriculum over the years and some of the best faculty from across the world, our offerings are curated to address the needs of the dynamic business environment,” the statement quoted Professor Prashant Mishra, Dean, New Initiatives and External Relations, IIM Calcutta, as having said.

“As a result, we’ve been able to create a pool of ethical and responsible leaders across domains. The rankings will help us network more closely with the top B-schools across the globe,” he added.
