New Delhi: The Election Commission published a final voter list of Assam with over 2.49 crore voters, while 2.43 lakh ineligible names were removed from the draft roll published in December 2025.

The final list has 1,24,82,213 male voters, 1,24,75,583 female voters and 343 third gender voters.

The draft electoral roll had a total of 2.52 crore electors, showing around 1.2 percent increase from the previous final roll published in January last year, which had 2,49,26,285 voters. The final list now saw a 0.97 percent decrease as compared to the January list.

The draft roll had flagged 4.79 lakh deceased electors, 5,24 lakh electors who had shifted from their registered locations, and 53,619 multiple or similar entries.

Elections in Assam are scheduled for March-April. After completion of the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) in poll-bound Bihar, the EC had in October announced its next phase of SIR in 12 States and Union Territories. The list includes West Bengal, Kerala, Tamil Nadu and Puducherry that go to polls this year as well.

The poll panel had cited the unique citizenship provisions for Assam under the Citizenship Act, as well as the Supreme Court monitored citizenship identification process (National Register of Citizens).

Last year, the EC had ordered only a ‘Special Revision’ of electoral rolls in Assam. The Special Revision exercise, according to EC officials, stands somewhere between the annual special summary revision and the SIR of electoral rolls. It did not have enumeration forms, but did have verification of electors through a house to house drive.

The draft roll was published 27 December, after which the period for filing claims and objections ran till 22 January. The claims and objections were to be disposed of by 2 November, and the final electoral roll was published on Tuesday.
