New Delhi, Apr 15 (PTI) The Election Commission on Monday ordered the removal of the Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIG) of Murshidabad in West Bengal over violence in the district and the officer’s alleged “lack of supervision” to immediately prevent more incidents, according to sources.
They said two violent incidents were reported there in which weapons and explosives were used.
The sources said IPS officer Mukesh, who is DIG, Murshidabad Range, in the rank of IGP, is being removed.
While visiting the state ahead of announcing the Lok Sabha polls, the Commission had said there will be zero tolerance for election violence and that responsibility will be fixed at “higher levels”, the sources said.
Violence was reported in the high-profile constituency on Eid where rival TMC groups allegedly hurled bombs at each other.
