To address the pressing climate change issues, a two-day climate change conclave was organized by the Department of Science and Technology (DST) in collaboration with the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Delhi. The conclave brought together experts from across India to discuss the development of artificial intelligence (AI) models for climate forecasting in the Indian context, a PIB press release stated.
The goal of the conclave was to find better solutions to address the challenges of climate change and strengthen the collaborations among people for better climate adaptation solutions. DST Secretary Prof. Abhay Karandikar highlighted the progress made in the development of climate change models and the need for more focus on developing foundational models in AI for climate forecasting in the Indian context. He also emphasized the importance of collecting data and developing indigenous climate models based on data to better understand climate change.
The conclave was a significant step forward in bringing together experts and government officials to address the pressing climate change issues. The DST’s two missions under the National Actions Plan for Climate Change (NAPCC) are focused on developing and mentoring climate change science and adaptation R&D programmes across the country. The efforts of the DST’s Climate Change, Energy, and Sustainable Technology (CEST) are focused on developing innovative solutions to the climate change problem.
