Jalna, Oct 17 (PTI) Maharashtra minister Pankaja Munde has adopted Antarwali Sarati village in Jalna district of the state under the ‘Village Adoption Campaign’ in view of the prevailing drought conditions.

Antarwali Sarati village in Ambad taluka, which has gained prominence as the centre of Maratha reservation activist Manoj Jarange Patil’s hunger strikes and protests, will be developed with a focus on improving basic facilities and supporting farmers, an official statement said.

In Jalna, a total of 154 villages are reeling under drought.

A review meeting chaired by Munde, the district guardian minister, on Friday discussed measures to address the situation and ensure effective implementation of government schemes.

She directed the officials to ensure transparency and accuracy in crop insurance claims so that farmers receive maximum benefits.

She also instructed them to visit Antarwali Sarati village next month and take steps to accelerate its overall development.

Stressing the need for water conservation, the Women and Child Development Minister called for prioritising drinking water supply, monitoring tanker-based water distribution through GPS technology and undertaking river and stream-deepening works.

To ensure effective implementation of the government’s 10 per cent water-use restriction orders and avoid using potable water for construction activities, she said.

Munde also called for prevention of mental stress among drought-hit farmers, and directed officials to organise village-level counselling and communication programmes to boost their morale.

She urged people to conduct community marriages during the drought period. PTI COR NP

Nine Years, Made Possible by Readers

In 2017, Shekhar Gupta started ThePrint with a simple belief: Indian readers want journalism that asks why and what next, not just what. And that enough of them would be willing to pay for good journalism.

Nine years on, that belief has held.

And, in these nine years, we’ve stayed true to our mission. We’ve been asking the follow-up questions, going beyond the headlines and explaining what’s actually happening. We’ve travelled across the country to bring you in-depth, visually-compelling stories from the ground.

It’s been nine years of readers choosing to make this possible. If you’d like to be one of them:
