New Delhi: In a move to bolster India’s e-commerce sector, the Department of Posts (DoP) and Amazon Seller Services Private Limited announced a renewed partnership today. The agreement, formalized through a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), aims to leverage the strengths of both organizations to enhance logistical capabilities, create jobs, and contribute to economic growth, a PIB press release stated.
Amazon and DoP have been collaborating since 2013, with Amazon utilizing DoP’s vast postal network for parcel delivery across India. The MoU signifies a deeper commitment to this collaboration, enabling Amazon to further utilize DoP’s network and reach customers even in remote regions.
Key highlights of the MoU include exploring opportunities in logistics and business expansion, synchronizing logistics operations, sharing knowledge, and optimizing capacity utilization.
The agreement is expected to benefit both Amazon and DoP. Amazon will gain access to DoP’s extensive network of over 1.6 lakh post offices, streamlining its logistics operations and supporting its growing e-commerce business. DoP, on the other hand, will bolster its parcel business by scaling up parcel transmission and delivery. The partnership will also enhance DoP’s expertise in e-commerce logistics, contributing to India’s goal of becoming a global logistics hub.
