Mumbai, Sep 23 (PTI) NCP (SP) leader Supriya Sule on Wednesday said everyone should come together to support farmers facing a drought-like situation in Maharashtra, stressing that the issue should not be politicised.
The Baramati Lok Sabha MP welcomed the decision of Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis and his ministers to visit affected areas, but said such visits should result in concrete assistance reaching farmers.
The CM on Wednesday toured villages in Latur and Dharashiv reeling under water shortage and crop losses and will also visit the affected areas of Solapur district.
“During a drought, without bringing politics into it, all of us should stand together immediately with farmers who are facing difficulties in Maharashtra,” Sule told reporters in New Delhi.
Political parties should show restraint and collectively stand with the affected farmers, the NCP (SP) working president said.
NCP (SP) chief Sharad Pawar had written to the CM on the issue, she said and claimed that her party leaders, including Rohit Pawar, Jayant Patil and Anil Deshmukh, besides Shiv Sena (UBT) head Uddhav Thackeray, visited affected areas.
Sule urged the government to take immediate measures to provide relief to farmers.
Fadnavis on Tuesday said the state government would provide immediate assistance to farmers affected by the current drought-like situation without waiting for central aid.
He also announced the formation of a Cabinet sub-committee headed by Revenue Minister Chandrashekhar Bawankule to take speedy decisions on relief measures, and stated that a preliminary notification regarding the drought situation will be issued by Saturday. PTI MR GK
