Kolkata, Mar 7 (PTI) Dol Jatra or the festival of colours in West Bengal was celebrated with traditional fervour as people from different communities smeared ‘abir’ (gulaal) and greeted one another on the occasion.

The Holi festivities took place in Kolkata and other districts of the state with a spirit of vibrant enthusiasm as children used ‘pichkari’ (water guns) and threw coloured water-filled balloons at one another.

Special prayers were organised in Radha Krishna temples across the state, as devotees made a beeline to Mayapur in Nadia district to visit the ISKCON temple.

“Bengal is a cultural hub and all religions thrive here in harmony. I celebrate Holi with my friends every year,” participant Alam Sheikh said.

However, many students of classes 10 and 12 could not take part in the celebrations due to the ongoing board examinations in several institutions.

Some NGOs made special efforts to include differently-abled children and elderly people in the celebrations. PTI BSM ACD ACD
