Chandigarh, Aug 19 (PTI) Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann on Wednesday slammed the BJP over the Enforcement Directorate’s letter to the state DGP, saying there was no truth in the federal agency’s allegations and he does not need a certificate of honesty from anyone.
Mann’s remarks came days after the ED wrote to Punjab Director General of Police Gaurav Yadav, seeking registration of an FIR against the chief minister’s officer on special duty (OSD) and his associates for allegedly influencing transfers and postings of government officials, arms licence approvals and land deals.
Replying to a question on the ED’s communication, Mann hit out at the BJP, alleging, “the ‘ED party’ has this work only. There is no truth in it. The opposition is unable to get any issue. They are just into pointing fingers.” “I do not need to take a certificate of honesty from anyone. Those who looted Punjab are raising fingers,” said Mann at a press conference.
The ED’s letter stems from a money laundering investigation linked to the submission of alleged fake consent letters for obtaining Change of Land Use (CLU) in a case involving a housing society.
To a question on the arrest of former Delhi minister Satyendar Jain, Mann linked the police action to the leader’s position as the party’s co-incharge for poll-bound Punjab.
“This is the BJP’s way of doing work, which is anti-democratic. They are rattled now. They are not able to gain ground in Punjab.” Jain and former Delhi Jal Board (DJB) CEO Udit Prakash Rai are among six persons arrested by the Anti-Corruption Branch in connection with a case involving the tendering process for sewage treatment plant projects of the DJB.
On supporting parole for Jagtar Singh Hawara, a life-term convict in the assassination case of the former Punjab chief minister Beant Singh, Mann said he has already written to the governor and also met him in this regard. It is up to the Centre to take a call, said Mann. PTI CHS VSD AMJ AMJ
