Chennai, Oct 17 (PTI) The DMK parliamentary party meeting, held under the leadership of party president M K Stalin on Saturday, adopted four key resolutions, including one demanding the immediate dismissal of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar over the criticism of the SIR of the electoral roll.

The meeting resolved that the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) process, “which was rushed through in Bihar, Tamil Nadu, and several other states, systematically disenfranchised genuine voters”.

Highlighting the party’s consistent opposition to the drive since July 2025—including in all-party meetings, legal challenges, and statewide agitations—the DMK accused the poll panel of acting in a partisan manner.

The meeting, in its resolution, also strongly demanded the removal of Gyanesh Kumar and called for a thorough inquiry into his unilateral decisions.

Furthermore, the party expressed full support for the ongoing youth and student movements protesting election discrepancies, while sharply criticising the Congress and the TVK “for political opportunism and maintaining a silent, unholy nexus with the BJP”.

The DMK announced that its MPs will soon submit a formal memorandum to the President, pressing for the complete scrapping of the SIR process, the return to traditional ballot paper voting instead of Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) to restore public trust, and the 100 per cent counting of Voter Verifiable Paper Audit Trail (VVPAT) slips.

The meeting also passed a resolution criticising Congress and TVK “for adopting double standards” with regard to SIR. PTI SNR

Nine Years, Made Possible by Readers

In 2017, Shekhar Gupta started ThePrint with a simple belief: Indian readers want journalism that asks why and what next, not just what. And that enough of them would be willing to pay for good journalism.

Nine years on, that belief has held.

And, in these nine years, we’ve stayed true to our mission. We’ve been asking the follow-up questions, going beyond the headlines and explaining what’s actually happening. We’ve travelled across the country to bring you in-depth, visually-compelling stories from the ground.

It’s been nine years of readers choosing to make this possible. If you’d like to be one of them:
