Indore, May 12 (PTI) The Madhya Pradesh government on Tuesday decided to expand the Dinosaur Fossil National Park in Dhar district from 89 hectares to 200 hectares, and a large museum dedicated to dinosaur fossils will be built within the park, officials said.
These decisions were made in a video conference meeting chaired by Indore Division Commissioner (Revenue) Dr Sudam Khade.
The park, spread over 89 hectares in the Bagh area of Dhar, contains fossils of dinosaur bones, eggs and more, he said.
“The park will be expanded to 200 hectares, and land from four villages has been included in the park. A large museum is also proposed to be built within the park, which will display dinosaur fossils,” Khade said.
Hotels and resorts would be developed in the area surrounding the park, he said.
Officials said that activities such as excavation, operations of use polluting industries, commercial use of firewood, establishment of brick kilns, and discharge of untreated waste into natural water sources would be prohibited within the park’s boundaries.
Vishal Verma, head of the non-governmental explorers’ group, Mangal Panchayatan Parishad, first discovered dinosaur eggs in the park area in 2007. Following this, the state government established the Dinosaur Fossil National Park there. PTI HWP MAS NP
