Hisar, Jul 25 (PTI) A dialysis facility for dogs has been launched here on Saturday at a Veterinary University in Haryana’s Hisar, offering a new lease of life to critically ill pet dogs, officials said.
This is being hailed as a significant milestone in veterinary services. The introduction of this facility at the Veterinary Clinical Complex of Lala Lajpat Rai University of Veterinary and Animal Sciences (LUVAS) has sparked new hope for the treatment of pets suffering from severe kidney-related ailments.
A LUVAS spokesperson said that this is the first time such a dialysis facility for dogs has been introduced in Haryana.
The service is currently being provided by a team of specialist veterinarians under the guidance of Dr Gyan Singh, Head of the Department at the university’s Veterinary Clinical Complex. At present, dialysis will be performed only on those animals deemed suitable for the procedure following a medical assessment.
Dialysis is a medical procedure that uses a machine to remove toxins and excess fluid from the body when the kidneys are not functioning properly. It plays a crucial role in saving the lives of animals suffering from severe kidney diseases and improving their health status.
In a statement issued on Saturday, the university administration announced that the facility is currently available for pet dogs in its initial phase. In the future, with the addition of necessary resources and technical expansion, the service will be extended to other animals, enabling a larger number of animal owners to benefit from this advanced medical facility.
Dr Tarun Kumar and Dr Nilesh Sindhu, in-charges of the dialysis unit, along with other veterinarians, played a pivotal role in launching this facility at the veterinary hospital, the statement said.
