New Delhi, Aug 9 (PTI) The MCD has taken up a Rs 9.73-crore project to rejuvenate and beautify Naini Lake in Model Town, with treated sewage water from the Coronation Pillar STP to be supplied to the lake as part of efforts to promote wastewater reuse, officials said on Sunday.
The project, being undertaken under the Atal Mission for Rejuvenation and Urban Transformation 2.0 (AMRUT) scheme, was inaugurated on Sunday in the presence of Delhi Cabinet Minister Kapil Mishra, MLA Ashok Goyal, area councillor Vikesh Sethi and Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) Deputy Commissioner Mohit Bansal.
Treated water from the sewage treatment plant will be conveyed to Naini Lake, while excess treated water will be used for irrigating nearby municipal parks under the project, an official statement said.
The civic body will also undertake horticultural development, remodel the peripheral reinforced cement concrete (RCC) drain, install decorative lighting and two musical fountains, and repair the existing grill and boundary around the lake.
The project aims to improve the lake’s environmental and recreational value while promoting the reuse of treated wastewater, officials said.
“The project will help improve the environmental and recreational value of Naini Lake while ensuring productive reuse of treated wastewater,” an MCD official said.
