New Delhi, Sep 23 (PTI) The Delhi Traffic Police issued 10,583 challans for various violations during a special enforcement drive to improve road safety and ensure smoother traffic flow across the national Capital, officials said on Wednesday.
The drive focused on violations including wrong-side driving, improper parking, riding without helmets, pollution under control certificate (PUCC) violations and triple riding, in addition to action against traffic obstructions.
Of the challans issued, 4,356 were for wrong-side driving, the highest violation recorded during the drive. This was followed by 3,669 for improper parking and 1,594 for driving without helmets, according to the traffic police.
Police issued 295 challans for PUCC violations, 164 for triple riding, and 505 for other traffic violations.
Officials said as part of the enforcement action, police removed 299 vendors from roads and public spaces and towed 43 improperly parked vehicles.
During the enforcement exercise, the traffic police also registered 59 cases under Section 281 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), which relates to rash or negligent conduct with respect to machinery or driving.
The traffic police said enforcement measures would continue as part of its efforts to strengthen traffic discipline across the city. PTI SSJ ASD ASD
