New Delhi: A bomb threat to the Delhi Public School on Mathura Road caused much apprehension on Wednesday morning, and many parents were seen taking their children home.

A thorough search of the school premises yielded nothing suspicious, Deputy Commissioner of Police (South East) Rajesh Deo told ThePrint.

DCP Rajesh Deo said a PCR call was received from the principal Wednesday morning about the mail on the school’s official id. “The mail said that the bomb will be activated at 9 am Wednesday,” Deo added.

“Police staff were broadly divided into three groups according to the layout of the school. The school has three buildings: pre-primary, junior and senior wings, and intensive manual and technical search was started. Process of evacuation of students also started without any delay and pupils of different wings were facilitated to assemble in the open grounds near their buildings,” the DCP said.

This is the second school in the capital to get a bomb threat over mail this month.

Police sources said school authorities received the threat in an email around 9 pm on Tuesday night. They called in the cops early in the morning, and also informed fire services. The school was immediately evacuated.

A bomb disposal squad along with police canines and a SWAT team combed the premises before clearing it.

Delhi Fire Services chief Atul Garg said, “We were informed around 8 am about the mail after which the school was evacuated. Nothing has been found till now. Searches are still underway. It is taking time since the campus is big.”

Deo said the threat letter was written in English, adding that further investigations were underway to track the sender.

Earlier this month, The Indian Public School in Delhi’s Sadiq Nagar got a similar threat over email, in which the perpetrator said a “strong bomb” would cause harm to students and the faculty unless the premises were emptied.

The same school got another bomb threat in November last year – both warnings turned out to be a hoax.

Probe into who sent the mail in November revealed that it came via a server in Germany. No suspects were, however, identified.
