New Delhi, May 26 (PTI) Police in Delhi are on high alert ahead of the Eid-ul-Azha celebrations on May 28, with elaborate security arrangements made across all districts, particularly in sensitive areas, officials said on Tuesday.

Intensified patrolling, flag marches and strict monitoring of social media platforms will be conducted to prevent the circulation of videos of animal sacrifice or any provocative content that may disturb communal harmony, they said.

Police personnel, including additional forces, have been deployed at strategic locations, while district units have been directed to maintain round-the-clock vigil and strengthen coordination with community leaders and mosque committees.

“Special teams are monitoring social media platforms to ensure that no objectionable posts, rumours, inflammatory messages or videos of sacrifice are uploaded or circulated online. Strict action will be taken against those found trying to disturb peace through social media,” a senior police officer said.

According to police, cyber teams have been tasked with conducting surveillance on various social media platforms and messaging applications during the festival period.

Authorities have also appealed to people not to perform animal sacrifice in open public places and to follow all lawful guidelines issued by civic and government agencies.

In northeast Delhi, a coordination meeting was chaired by Joint Commissioner of Police (Eastern Range) Ajit Kumar Singla and attended by imams, members of Aman Committees, Nagrik Bhaichara Samitis, civic officials and other stakeholders.

During the meeting, police urged them to maintain communal harmony, ensure proper disposal of waste and refrain from posting objectionable or provocative content online.

Similar meetings were organised in other districts as part of confidence-building measures ahead of the festival.

In Dwarka, Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Kushal Pal Singh chaired a meeting attended by over 150 mosque imams and community representatives, along with ACPs and SHOs.

During the meeting, police discussed arrangements related to law and order, crowd management, traffic regulation and public safety during the celebrations.

Senior officers appealed to the community leaders to cooperate with police, avoid spreading rumours or misinformation and promote peace and brotherhood during the festival.

“District police have been directed to maintain a strong vigil, ensure regular patrolling and remain in close coordination with local representatives to prevent any untoward incident,” an officer said.

East district police, along with additional forces, carried out extensive foot patrolling in various localities to enhance police visibility and reassure residents.

Police said personnel were closely monitoring movement in crowded markets and sensitive areas while preventive measures were being strengthened to maintain public confidence.

Residents have also been advised to immediately report any suspicious person or object by dialling the emergency helpline number.

In central Delhi, police will conduct a flag march from Ajmeri Gate Chowk near the New Delhi railway station on Tuesday evening to instil a sense of security among the public, the officials said.

They said adequate arrangements are being made to ensure that Eid-ul-Azha celebrations pass off peacefully across the city. PTI BM DIV DIV
