New Delhi, May 26 (PTI) Police and civic authorities held a coordination meeting with religious leaders and community representatives in northeast Delhi ahead of Eid-ul-Azha, urging people to maintain communal harmony and adhere to government guidelines during the festival.
The meeting on Monday was attended by imams of mosques and Idgahs, members of Nagrik Bhaichara Samiti, Aman Committee, civic officials, and other stakeholders, police said.
A senior officer said that the meeting was chaired by Joint Commissioner of Police (Eastern Range) Ajit Kumar Singla. During the meeting, people were advised to perform animal sacrifice only at designated and permitted places and avoid carrying it out in open public view, police said.
Authorities also urged residents to ensure proper disposal of waste and maintain cleanliness and hygiene in their localities during the festivities.
“We appealed to people not to make or circulate videos or photographs of the sacrifice and refrain from posting objectionable or provocative content on social media that could disturb communal harmony,” a senior police officer said.
Stakeholders assured full cooperation in maintaining law and order during the festival, police said.
