New Delhi, Sep 3 (PTI) Delhi and its neighbouring states have drawn up seven-month plans to raise public awareness and community participation about pollution.
Known as the state IEC (Information, Education and Communication) Action Plans, they will be implemented between September 2026 and March 2027.
The plans of Delhi and its neighbouring states of Punjab, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh and Rajasthan include workshops by state pollution control boards (SPCBs), RWA meetings and social media campaigns regarding different aspects of pollution.
“The concerned state pollution control boards and the Delhi pollution control board will act as the nodal agency for implementing the state-wise IEC Action Plan,” an official said on Thursday.
The Commission for Air Quality Management in National Capital Region and Adjoining Areas (CAQM) reviewed these plans last month, and they were recently presented to Environment Minister Bhupender Yadav.
Each of the IEC Action Plans lays out ways of reaching out to the public about different sources of pollution.
For instance, according to the Delhi IEC Action Plan, 24 weekly citizen activities (print, LED displays and radio jingles) across diesel generator sets and road dust sectors will take place between September 2026 and March 2027.
Moreover, awareness drives through RWA meetings and social media campaigns will be conducted to curb biomass burning.
The Haryana IEC Action Plan says that 250 vehicle owners per district will be directly contacted every month to raise awareness about pollution under control (PUC) compliance, clean fuel and EVs among other things.
It also notes that in Haryana’s 14 NCR districts, from Gurugram to Charkhi Dadri, intensive gram panchayat stubble-burning camps and crop residue management-technique demonstrations will take place.
Similarly, the Punjab IEC Action Plan states that Punjab Agricultural University (PAU) and Krishi Vigyan Kendras (KVKs) will conduct farmer training, expert lectures, demonstration support, technical advisories and the like regarding crop residue management practices. PTI ALC KSS KSS
