New Delhi: Admonished and slapped over a fight with a colleague, a driver allegedly abducted and murdered his employer’s 5-year-old son from Delhi’s Narela in a fit of rage on Tuesday.

Police said the driver Nitu, hired by a Narela-based businessman who ran a transport firm, was arrested from Sabzi Mandi area of the city on Wednesday.

The incident was reported around 3.30 pm on Tuesday afternoon, when the boy’s family alerted the Narela Industrial Area police station about the missing child.

The family told police that the boy was playing outside their house in Narela in the afternoon.

On the lookout, a police team visited Nitu’s rented accommodation hours later and found the boy’s body in the driver’s room.

Preliminary investigation indicates that the boy was killed with a knife and bricks.

The child was rushed to a city hospital and was declared dead by doctors.

“A murder case was registered against Nitu. He was arrested on Wednesday and is currently being interrogated,” said Hareshwar Swami, deputy commissioner of police (DCP), Outer North.

The DCP said Nitu’s motivation for the crime appears to be revenge.

“The accused was involved in an ugly fight with another driver, Wasim, who complained to their employer about it. The employer slapped and scolded Nitu for his behaviour. In a fit of rage, Nitu took the child and committed the heinous offence,” the DCP said.

Investigators said a post-mortem had been carried out and the autopsy report is pending.
