New Delhi, Sep 17 (PTI) The Delhi government will set up 7,500 health camps across the national capital as part of the ‘Swasth Nari, Sashakt Pariwar’ campaign launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on his birthday.

The initiative aims to enhance health services for women and children and promote preventive care.PM Modi launched the campaign from Dhar in Madhya Pradesh.

Addressing an event here, Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta said, “On his birthday, our Prime Minister has given a gift to the public by opening several health camps across the country. In line with this, it is our commitment to set up 7,500 camps in Delhi under this campaign.” She said that the focus will be on improving the health and well-being of women and their infants, with special attention to nutrition, immunisation, and early diagnosis.

Union Minister of State for Health and Family Welfare Anupriya Patel said these camps will help foster community participation.

“A healthy woman forms the foundation of an empowered family,” she said and highlighted government efforts to ensure safe motherhood, institutional deliveries, affordable sanitary product and vaccination programmes.

Dr Nirupam Madan, Medical Superintendent of AIIMS Delhi, said that the health camps at AIIMS would provide check-ups and screening for cervical and breast cancer.

“Women can walk in between 9 AM and 2 PM to avail these facilities at the main AIIMS campus, as well as outreach centres in Trilokpuri, Ballabhgarh and Jhajjar,” she added.

Delhi’s Health Minister Pankaj Singh said the government is working to ensure that essential medicines and medical assistance are available at all healthcare centres. A special outpatient department (OPD) was also organised at RML hospital to support the campaign.

The campaign is being implemented in coordination with hospitals, dispensaries and community health centres to reach communities in all districts, according to a statement.

“It is part of a broader national effort by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare and the Ministry of Women and Child Development to provide screenings for conditions such as anaemia, hypertension, diabetes, tuberculosis, and cancer, along with maternal health services and vaccination drives,” it stated.

Gupta virtually joined the launch from the Delhi Secretariat. She highlighted the prime minister’s unique leadership, combining the strength of a father through bold decisions such as the surgical strike against terror infrastructure, removal of Article 370, GST reforms and decisive COVID-19 measures, with the care of a mother, evident in his focus on women’s nutrition, sanitation and dignity.

The statement said that the health camps will be organised at Ayushman Arogya Mandirs and Community Health Centres to provide screenings for anaemia, diabetes, hypertension, tuberculosis, sickle cell disease, and cancer, alongside vaccination and maternal health services.

Monitoring will be facilitated through the SASHAKT portal, with active community participation via Nikshay Mitras, it mentioned.

The campaign, which will run until October 2, encourages women to actively participate in the health camps and avail services provided, it stated.

The Delhi government aims to ensure that the benefits reach every woman and child as part of its pledge to build a healthier and more empowered community, it SAID. PTI SHB RT
