New Delhi, Jun 18 (PTI) Cuisine tourism is set to find a new platform in Delhi, with the city government planning a grand festival at Ramlila Maidan this December that will offer visitors a journey through India’s regional flavours, featuring live cooking demonstrations by chefs from several states.
Speaking to PTI, a senior official said the festival is being held for the first time, and it is expected to feature live cooking sessions.
“Three-day demonstrations are being designed as interactive experiences, allowing people to engage with chefs, learn about ingredients and cooking techniques, and gain insights into the culinary traditions associated with different regions,” he said.
The event, proposed to be held at Ramlila Maidan in December, is expected to feature chefs, artisans and cultural performers from different states, offering visitors an opportunity to experience authentic regional cuisines through live cooking demonstrations and interactive showcases, said the official.
Visitors will also get opportunities to participate in certain cooking activities and understand the processes behind regional recipes, making the event more than just a food-tasting exercise, the official said.
“The idea is to give people an authentic experience of different states without having to travel there. Food is an important part of culture and we want visitors to see how dishes are prepared, understand the traditions behind them and interact directly with those who preserve these culinary practices,” he added.
Besides cuisine, the festival will showcase traditional crafts, handloom products and weaving techniques from participating states, he said and added artisans are expected to conduct demonstrations, enabling visitors to observe the skills and craftsmanship involved in producing regional handicrafts.
According to the official, the initiative stems from the belief that Delhi, home to people from all parts of the country, can serve as a platform for celebrating India’s cultural diversity. The event is expected to bring together various aspects of regional heritage, including food, art, music and traditional practices.
The government is in discussions with state authorities and tourism departments regarding participation and logistics. Each state is expected to present elements of its unique cultural identity, creating a festival that reflects the country’s varied traditions in a single venue, he said.
He added that the event will provide residents and tourists an opportunity to experience a wide range of regional cuisines and cultural traditions while encouraging greater appreciation of India’s diverse heritage. PTI SHB SHB SMV SKY SKY
