New Delhi, May 19 (PTI) The Delhi Congress on Tuesday alleged that rising inflation and unemployment had pushed the national capital towards becoming a “crime capital”, claiming that increasing prices of essential commodities and fuel were severely impacting common citizens.

Addressing a press conference at the Delhi Congress office, party’s general secretary Anil Bhardwaj said the continuous rise in prices of petrol, diesel, CNG, milk and bread had “completely disrupted” household budgets, especially affecting the poor, middle class, salaried employees and small traders.

Bhardwaj claimed that inflation and joblessness were contributing to a rise in crimes such as robbery, kidnapping, drug abuse and crimes against women in Delhi.

He said milk prices were recently increased by Rs 2 per litre by major dairy brands, while petrol and diesel prices had also gone up. He further alleged that CNG prices in Delhi had been raised in phases, touching Rs 80.09 per kg.

The Congress leader also referred to an increase in bread prices, alleging that the rising cost of daily essentials was putting additional pressure on households.

The Delhi Congress on May 16 staged protests across the national capital against the recent hike in the prices of petrol, diesel, CNG and milk, with Delhi Congress chief Devender Yadav riding a bullock cart to a petrol pump in Karol Bagh to symbolically protest against rising inflation and demand an immediate rollback.
