New Delhi, Oct 18 (PTI) Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta, along with her Cabinet colleagues, joined a cleanliness drive along the Yamuna River at the Haathi Ghat near ITO on Sunday, officials said.

Gupta, who picked up garbage from the riverbank alongwith a large number of youth and members of social organisations, said, “I found that a large quantity of broken pieces of idols of deities and other items used in worship were thrown into the river. Plastic was also thrown in large quantities.”

She said it is the responsibility of everyone who has faith in the Yamuna to keep it clean.

Delhi government is taking several steps to clean the Yamuna, including tapping drain water flowing into the river by setting up decentralised sewerage treatment plants and desilting of drains, she said.

BJP leaders and workers, as well as the members of residents’ welfare societies, joined the drive. PTI VIT ARI

Nine Years, Made Possible by Readers

In 2017, Shekhar Gupta started ThePrint with a simple belief: Indian readers want journalism that asks why and what next, not just what. And that enough of them would be willing to pay for good journalism.

Nine years on, that belief has held.

And, in these nine years, we’ve stayed true to our mission. We’ve been asking the follow-up questions, going beyond the headlines and explaining what’s actually happening. We’ve travelled across the country to bring you in-depth, visually-compelling stories from the ground.

It’s been nine years of readers choosing to make this possible. If you’d like to be one of them:
