New Delhi, Oct 16 (PTI) Ahead of the festival season, Chief Minister Rekha Gupta said on Friday that officials will register FIRs against those who deface public property. Leading a high-level meeting, Gupta directed government offices, hospitals, and schools to run special cleanliness drives before Diwali.

“It is our responsibility to ensure that people experience cleanliness and better facilities everywhere, from their homes and markets to roads, parks and public spaces. All departments must work with commitment and address any shortcomings immediately,” the chief minister said.

Gupta said action must be taken against those who put up unauthorised posters under the Delhi Prevention of Defacement of Property Act, 2007, and that FIRs must be registered in accordance with the applicable rules.

The chief minister said festivals symbolise joy, enthusiasm and mutual harmony. During this period, every part of Delhi should look clean, well-lit and orderly, she said.

“Concerned agencies should address the issue immediately. Issuing instructions alone is not enough; monitoring, implementation and ensuring results are also the responsibility of officials,” she said in a statement.

She directed officials to identify dark spots, ensure adequate lighting at these locations. PTI SSM ASD

Nine Years, Made Possible by Readers

In 2017, Shekhar Gupta started ThePrint with a simple belief: Indian readers want journalism that asks why and what next, not just what. And that enough of them would be willing to pay for good journalism.

Nine years on, that belief has held.

And, in these nine years, we’ve stayed true to our mission. We’ve been asking the follow-up questions, going beyond the headlines and explaining what’s actually happening. We’ve travelled across the country to bring you in-depth, visually-compelling stories from the ground.

It’s been nine years of readers choosing to make this possible. If you’d like to be one of them:
