New Delhi, Apr 30 (PTI) The Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) has directed an assessment of gaps in sanitation services and planned deployment of additional resources for waste clearance and cleanliness management, officials said on Wednesday.
The move comes amid concerns over littering on roads and public places and aims to improve on-ground sanitation services across the city, they added.
“Each zone has been directed to prepare a ‘Ward Sanitation Management Plan’ taking into account the existing manpower, machinery, and their utilisation at the ward level,” an official said.
The zones will identify gaps in resources required to achieve visible cleanliness and prepare proposals for additional deployment, he said.
According to a circular, zones may initially hire extra resources for six months, after which the requirement will be reassessed and a decision taken accordingly.
The civic body has also asked zones to factor in resources already available with existing concessionaires, including those engaged in mixed waste handling, railway track cleaning, silt removal, and other sanitation-related works, the circular stated.
It said the scope of work of each agency should be clearly defined to avoid overlap and ensure accountability for day-to-day monitoring and penal action in case of default.
“The additional machinery and manpower should be deployed in a manner that ensures garbage collected from secondary collection points, dhalaos, dustbins, and open sites is transported to designated dump sites or waste-to-energy facilities,” the official said.
The lifting of municipal solid waste from collection points may be carried out once, twice, or thrice a day, depending on the quantity of garbage generated, the circular read. PTI MSJ HIG HIG HIG
