New Delhi, Sep 10 (PTI) Teams of the Delhi Police are working to arrest Shubham Tyagi, an absconding accused in the Satya Niketan building-collapse case, as investigators examine mobile-phone records and online chat history to ascertain what transpired immediately after the incident, sources said on Thursday.
They said the mobile phone of co-accused Sudhanshu Lovneesh, who is under arrest, has been sent for a forensic examination.
Police are checking whom did Lovneesh call first after the building collapsed, what did he discuss about the incident and his conversations and chat records, besides examining other data stored on the device, the sources said.
The development comes as police continue to probe the circumstances leading to the collapse of the five-storey building in Delhi’s Satya Niketan on Sunday, leaving seven people — five students and two labourers — dead and injuring five others.
According to the sources, a wall on the ground floor was removed on the day of the incident to make space for a shop. Repair-and-extension work was also underway on the ground floor for allegedly commercial purposes.
The basement was also undergoing repairs for eight to 10 days after waste and water accumulated there following several days of rain. Three truckloads of debris were reportedly dumped into the basement to level it with the ground floor.
Police have arrested the building owner’s son, Mahesh, labour contractor Sanoj Kumar and paying-guest-accommodation operator Lovneesh. Building owner Hariram Gupta (81) and his wife Urmila (75) are also in judicial custody.
Tyagi and Lovneesh were operating the PG under the name “Hostel Daze”, after taking four floors of the building on lease in August 2025 for Rs 1.05 lakh per month.
Police said Tyagi is absconding and teams have been sent to Haryana, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh and several other places to trace and arrest him. PTI BM RC
