Union Home Minister Amit Shah, who visited the blast site, said teams from Delhi Police Special Cell, Crime Branch, NIA, NSG and FSL were rushed to the spot and ‘no possibility is being ruled out’.

DELHI RED FORT BLAST | LIVE UPDATES

11.00 am: In eye of blast probe, a Pulwama doctor with MBBS from Srinagar

Dr Umar U. Nabi, the key suspect in the explosion near the Red Fort Metro station, had completed MBBS from Government Medical College (GMC) Srinagar in 2017, ThePrint has learnt. The 36-year-old is believed to have been killed in the high-intensity blast that rocked the Red Fort area on Monday night.

The GMC link, according to the sources aware of the investigation details, was gleaned from Nabi’s medical registration.

He had worked in GMC, Anantnag as well and last worked at Faridabad’s Al-Falah School of Medical Sciences & Research Centre, the sources said. Dr Muzammil Shakeel, another terror suspect, worked in the same Faridabad hospital.

A native of Pulwama, Nabi was allegedly part of the Faridabad-Jammu and Kashmir module of the Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM) and the Ansar Ghazwat-ul-Hind (AGuH), a J&K-specific wing of al Qaeda.

Hours before the blast, the J&K police, along with its Haryana counterpart, recovered a 2,500 kg cache of IED-making material Monday from the rented premises of Shakeel at Fatehpur Taga village in Haryana’s Faridabad district.

The cache included around 360 kg of highly inflammable material, suspected to be ammonium nitrate, along with chemicals, reagents, other inflammable materials, electronic circuits, batteries, wires, remote controls, timers, and metal sheets.

10.15 am: CCTV footage from Red Fort parking lot

A CCTV clip from a Red Fort parking lot, minutes before the blast Monday, shows the white Hyundai i20 that rolled up to a red light near the metro station and exploded, killing nine people.

The 1.30 minute-long video shows the car, bearing the registration number HR 26CE7674, waiting in queue to reach the toll booth. The car can then be seen reaching the point, with the driver then extending his hand to take in what appears to be a slip from the parking staff there. The time stamp shows the clip is from 6.22 pm, 10 November. The blast occurred around 6.50 pm near the traffic light close to gate number 1 of the Red Fort Metro station.

The man in the driver’s seat is not fully visible throughout the clip, except for a few seconds when he tilts his head in the direction of the booth while seemingly waiting for change. It is not clear from the footage whether there are more people in the car.

Sources in the Delhi Police said that the car was spotted by CCTV cameras at Darya Ganj, Red Fort area, Kashmere Gate, and near Sunehri Masjid. Read Bismee Taskin’s report.

6 am: Delhi blast linked to Faridabad explosives recovery?

The explosion near Red Fort metro stration is believed to have occurred in a moving Hyundai i20 car, with occupants inside, and not a parked vehicle as was initially suspected.

Mohsin Ali, a local resident, told ThePrint at the blast site he heard a loud thud. “When I reached, the fire had spread and consumed everything. After the first explosion, two more cars burst into flames.” Another local resident who was at the blast site Monday evening said body parts were strewn across the road in the aftermath of the explosion.

As ThePrint reported earlier, investigators are probing if the Delhi blast was linked to the cache of arms and explosives material recovered from Faridabad earlier Monday. Two doctors from Kashmir were arrested in connection with the recovery. Meanwhile, the office of Gujarat DGP Vikas Sahay wrote on X that even though the “exact reason for the blast in Red Fort area of Delhi has not been confirmed so far,” the Gujarat Police is on high alert.

Haryana DGP O.P. Singh wrote on X that the state has been put on high alert, and that “any suspicious person or unclaimed object” can be reported to 112.
