New Delhi, Sep 3 (PTI) The New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC), as part of a pilot project, will extend the operating hours of 11 public toilets in Connaught Place till midnight from Friday, in a bid to make the popular commercial and leisure hub more visitor-friendly.

NDMC chairman Manoj Dwivedi said people often stay in Connaught Place till late and the timings of the public conveniences were therefore being extended.

Currently, all public washrooms in Connaught Place remain open till 10 pm.

“People would like to be in Connaught Place till late. So from tomorrow onwards, timings for 11 public toilets are being extended up to midnight. More will follow in due course,” Dwivedi said in a post on X on Thursday.

The toilets are located at SBS Marg on the outer circle; near ESS on the outer circle; middle circle’s A Block near RR-2; K Block between RR-4 and RR-5; E Block near RR-7; Central Park opposite D Block and F Block on the inner circle; near Super Bazar parking; ECE House; F Block near RR-1; and at the Panchkuian Road-Chelmsford Road stretch on the outer circle.

The move comes on the same day Dwivedi sought public suggestions on measures to make Connaught Place more visitor-friendly, including whether its inner circle should be made a vehicle-free zone.

Responding to his post on X regarding the extended toilet timings, some users welcomed the move but sought better maintenance and security at public conveniences.

One user suggested that a security guard or cleaning staff should be present at each toilet and that the facilities should be cleaned frequently to maintain hygiene.

Another user requested that the public washrooms be kept open round-the-clock.

The NDMC has said more public toilets in Connaught Place would be brought under the extended timings in due course. PTI MSJ MSJ MPL MPL

Nine Years, Made Possible by Readers

In 2017, Shekhar Gupta started ThePrint with a simple belief: Indian readers want journalism that asks why and what next, not just what. And that enough of them would be willing to pay for good journalism.

Nine years on, that belief has held.

And, in these nine years, we’ve stayed true to our mission. We’ve been asking the follow-up questions, going beyond the headlines and explaining what’s actually happening. We’ve travelled across the country to bring you in-depth, visually-compelling stories from the ground.

It’s been nine years of readers choosing to make this possible. If you’d like to be one of them:
