Shillong, Nov 2 (PTI) Days after his induction into the ruling NPP in Meghalaya, West Shillong MLA Paul Lyngdoh is set to return to the state cabinet, with his swearing-in scheduled later on Monday, a party leader said.
Lyngdoh, the former state tourism minister, was among the 11 legislators who deserted the United Democratic Party (UDP) recently.
The legislator, along with two other UDP MLAs, had sought to merge with the NPP amid a major political realignment in the state, days after eight other MLAs from the regional party joined the BJP.
The NPP welcomed Lyngdoh and Renikton Lyngdoh at its headquarters here on October 28, and Deputy Chief Minister Prestone Tynsong handed over party membership certificates to them. The third MLA, Mookaiaw legislator Nujorji Sungoh, could not attend the induction programme as he was unwell.
“Paul Lyngdoh, who represents the West Shillong constituency, will fill the vacancy created by the resignation of UDP president Metbah Lyngdoh from the Council of Ministers,” an NPP leader said.
The swearing-in ceremony is scheduled to be held at 5 pm on Monday, an official confirmed.
Lyngdoh had previously held the tourism portfolio and was closely associated with several initiatives in the sector.
During his tenure as tourism minister, he had taken a keen interest in the proposed Shillong Peak Ropeway project, which has recently come under scrutiny following objections raised by the Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council. PTI JOP BDC
