New Delhi: A day after it arrested four MBBS students from the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) Patna, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has now arrested one more MBBS student for allegedly being part of a group of ‘solvers’ who solved the leaked question paper of the NEET-UG 2024 examination.

The accused was identified as Surbhi Kumari, a second year MBBS student at the Rajendra Institute of Medical Sciences in Jharkhand’s capital Ranchi.

Sources in the agency told ThePrint that they suspect Surbhi was physically present in Hazaribagh along with four AIIMS Patna students on the morning of 5 May to solve the leaked question paper.

Additionally, the federal probe agency also arrested one Surendra Sharma from Hazaribagh for being part of this module. Sources in the agency said Sharma was another accomplice of Pankaj Kumar alias ‘Aditya’, a civil engineer who allegedly stole the NEET-UG 2024 question paper from a trunk of the National Testing Agency (NTA).

The probe agency was given the responsibility of investigating a larger conspiracy involving malpractice and irregularities in the examination.

Sources in the CBI maintained that the arrest of ‘Aditya’ was a “breakthrough” that led to the unravelling of an alleged group of ‘solvers’ of which five members have been arrested so far.

  1. Paper leaks are an industry in the states of Bihar, Jharkhand and UP. A thriving and immensely profitable industry supported by all political parties in these states.
This is the real reason behind most Central govt jobs being occupied by residents of these states. Be it UPSC exams or SSC or any other exam, the paper leaks industry in these states ensures that a huge majority of the successful candidates are from these states.
And this is the reason why all India entrance tests such as NEET-UG or NEET-PG are a very bad idea. Because criminal elements from these states will game the system and ensure that maximum candidates being selected are from these under-developed states. This is the real reason why Ms. Mamata Banerjee amd Mr. Stalin fought tooth and nail to resist the centralized admission tests. They knew that people from the Hindi-speaking states would be the main beneficiaries of this. But Modi/Shah did not.
