New Delhi: Bullets brushed past Bhim Army chief Chandra Shekhar Aazad Wednesday after a convoy he was travelling in was attacked by armed men in Uttar Pradesh.

The head of the Ambedkarite and Dalit rights organisation was admitted in a Saharanpur hospital, according to latest reports.

Senior Superintendent of Police Vipin Tada said Aazad’s convoy was fired at by car-borne armed men. A bullet brushed past him and he was all right, he said, adding the police were investigating the matter.

From his hospital bed Azad said his people had identified the assailants. “Their car went towards Saharanpur. We took a U-turn. Five of us, including my younger brother, were in the car when the attack took place,” he added.
