Shimla, Oct 28 (PTI) The Shimla meteorological office has predicted rain and snow across several parts of Himachal Pradesh in the next three days due to the impact of Cyclone Arnab, which made landfall along the Andhra coast on Wednesday.

The Met office has issued a yellow warning for thunderstorms and lightning in isolated areas in five to six districts on Thursday and Friday.

It has also forecast light to moderate rain across several parts of the state, along with snowfall in higher-altitude regions, from October 29 to 31.

Director of Shimla Meteorological Centre Shobhit Katiyar said the cyclonic storm that made landfall at 8 am on Wednesday in the Andhra coast will weaken as it moves across Odisha, Chhattisgarh and Madhya Pradesh.

The weather system would have weakened significantly by the time it reaches Himachal Pradesh by October 29 or 30, but its impact will be felt across the state, he said.

Light to moderate rainfall is likely in the districts of Shimla, Sirmaur, Mandi, Solan and Kangra on October 29 and 30, while snowfall is expected in the higher-altitude areas of Kinnaur, Lahaul-Spiti and Kullu, he said.

In light of a potential thunderstorm, the Met office issued a yellow alert for the districts of Shimla, Sirmaur, Solan, Mandi, Kangra and Kullu on Thursday and Shimla, Sirmaur, Mandi, Kangra and Kullu on Friday.

On the temperature front, Kukumseri in the tribal district of Lahaul and Spiti was the coldest place in the state at night, recording a low of minus 2.7 degrees Celsius, while Una was the hottest during the day, with a high of 32.4 degrees Celsius. PTI BPL RUK
