Etah (UP), Aug 13 (PTI) A crocodile that strayed from a pond into a residential area entered a house in Dhaniga village here, forcing the family to leave the house overnight, officials said on Thursday.
No one was injured in the incident, officials said, adding that the crocodile was taken into the safe custody of the Forest Department, which initiated the process of releasing it at a suitable natural habitat.
The incident occurred under the Pilua police station area on Wednesday after the crocodile came out of a pond on the outskirts of the village and entered the house of a resident identified as Anoop.
Panicked after spotting the reptile inside the house, family members managed to come out and informed the Forest Department.
A crowd of villagers gathered at the spot but did not attempt to catch the crocodile. Subsequently, a Forest Department team along with a wildlife rescue team from Agra reached the spot around 10 am on Thursday and launched a rescue operation and safely captured the crocodile.
Villagers said the presence of ponds and other water bodies around the village raises the possibility of crocodiles straying into residential areas. PTI COR ABN
