New Delhi/Leh, Oct 18 (PTI) A 30-year-old critically ill civilian patient was airlifted from Leh to Delhi in a C-130J aircraft, with the mission being carried out by the IAF in darkness and challenging weather conditions, officials said on Sunday.

The evacuation mission required a high degree of operational preparedness, professional coordination and timely execution, they said.

A senior official said the airlift happened late night on Saturday.

The defence ministry shared more details on this short-notice evacuation conducted by the Indian Air Force.

An IAF C-130J aircraft airlifted the critically ill patient from Leh to Palam air base in Delhi for further medical care, the ministry said in a statement.

“The mission was carried out in darkness and challenging weather conditions, requiring a high degree of operational preparedness, professional coordination and timely execution,” it said.

The patient was subsequently transferred to the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) for further treatment, it said.

The mission reflects the IAF’s operational readiness and its ability to respond promptly to critical humanitarian requirements, including medical evacuation under challenging conditions, the ministry said. PTI KND TAS MNK

Nine Years, Made Possible by Readers

In 2017, Shekhar Gupta started ThePrint with a simple belief: Indian readers want journalism that asks why and what next, not just what. And that enough of them would be willing to pay for good journalism.

Nine years on, that belief has held.

And, in these nine years, we’ve stayed true to our mission. We’ve been asking the follow-up questions, going beyond the headlines and explaining what’s actually happening. We’ve travelled across the country to bring you in-depth, visually-compelling stories from the ground.

It’s been nine years of readers choosing to make this possible. If you’d like to be one of them:
