New Delhi, Apr 30 (PTI) The Directorate of Education (DoE) has directed all government, aided and private recognised schools here to conduct awareness activities on solid waste management among students during the first week of May, officials said on Thursday.
The directive followed instructions received from the Delhi Pollution Control Committee (DPCC) and the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change under the Environment (Protection) Act, 1986, according to an official circular.
Schools have been asked to organise activities such as lectures on waste management awareness, painting competitions, essay writing contests on “effective and feasible ways to segregate waste,” and group discussions to align with the implementation of the Solid Waste Management Rules, 2026.
The circular stated that awareness points include minimising waste generation, proper segregation and safe disposal practices (including handling of sanitary waste), and recycling and reuse of wastes.
All district Deputy Directors of Education (DDEs) have been instructed to ensure compliance and submit an action taken report to the DoE’s Science Branch by May 8.
The DoE said the circular was issued with the prior approval of the competent authority. PTI AHD ASD ASD
