Bengaluru: Impressed with the Covid-related work done by Ballari Deputy Commissioner (DC) S.S. Nakul, a couple from the Karnataka district has named their newborn after him.
Parents Pradeep and Akshata (identified only by their first names) recalled how DC Nakul ensured all Covid-19 patients received the best possible treatment.
Akshata was admitted to the Ballari General Hospital in July for the delivery of her first child. During her admission screening, it was found that she was infected with Covid-19.
“We were very worried at first. But the DC ensured that adequate arrangements were made and special care was given. He would come regularly and check on all the patients. He took personal responsibility of all Covid-19 patients. The hospital staff also took good care of mothers and their newborns,” Pradeep told ThePrint over phone.
He also said that Nakul’s kindness and dedication left a lasting impression on the couple.
“We decided to name our child after him as a mark of respect. The DC would visit all the wards regularly and check on the Covid-infected patients. Such is his dedication,” Pradeep added.
A 2010 batch IAS officer, Nakul took charge as the Ballari DC in 2019. Speaking to ThePrint, Nakul said that he was surprised and honoured by the couple’s decision.
“I was told by the family later that I had met them during one of my rounds in the hospital and they remembered me from that day,” Nakul said.
The DC also said that he felt humbled at the couple’s decision to name the baby after him.
“It may be my name, but the recognition is for the entire district administration, the Covid team, including doctors and health workers who have worked tirelessly during this time. Our team of dedicated doctors have helped deliver more than 200 healthy babies to mothers who have tested Covid-19 positive,” he said.
