New Delhi: Conrad Sangma, the president of the National People’s Party (NPP), took oath as the chief minister of Meghalaya on Tuesday for the second time, at Raj Bhavan in Shillong.

Seven other MLAs from the NPP, two from the regional United Democratic Party (UDP), and one each from the BJP and the Hill State People’s Democratic Party (HSPDP) were also administered the oath of secrecy as cabinet ministers by Governor Phagu Chauhan.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Home Minister Amit Shah, BJP president J P Nadda, Assam Chief Minister, and NEDA convenor Himanta Biswa Sarma were also present on the occasion.

After days of intense drama and speculation, Sangma’s NPP, the BJP, the UDP, the HSPDP, and the People’s Democratic Front (PDF) formed the new Meghalaya government under the Meghalaya Democratic Alliance (MDA) 2.0 – the second consecutive term in office for the allies.
