Bhopal, May 30 (PTI) Congress workers held a protest in Bhopal on Saturday over the alleged NEET paper leak, during which several party leaders from Madhya Pradesh, including Digvijaya Singh and Jitu Patwari, were detained before being released.

The protest was organised by the National Students Union of India (NSUI), the Congress’ student wing. Assembly Leader of the Opposition Umang Singhar and NSUI national president Vinod Jakhar also took part in it.

The protesters gathered in front of the Congress office and then proceeded to surround the chief minister’s residence.

Police used water cannons to disperse the crowd. They later detained Singh, a former CM, Patwari, the party’s state president, Singhar and many NSUI leaders from the scene and took them to the Ratibad area on buses.

During the demonstration, Congress leaders said, NSUI state vice president Ravi Parmar and several other workers were injured and admitted to a local hospital in the capital.

While they claimed that senior leaders were “arrested”, police said they were detained and then released.

The National Testing Agency (NTA) on May 12 cancelled the National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test (Undergraduate), or NEET, held on May 3 for medical admissions amid allegations of paper leak. A re-exam was scheduled for June 21.

The paper leak allegations are under investigation by the CBI. PTI BNS MAS NR
