Panaji, Sep 23 (PTI) Congress General Secretary K C Venugopal on Wednesday said that if like-minded parties were “sincere” about defeating the ruling BJP, his party was willing to form a grand opposition alliance for the next year’s Goa assembly elections.
Venugopal arrived in the coastal state to participate in the Congress’ ‘Goy Rakhonn Yatra’ (Save Goa March), a 27-day campaign that began from Tuesday.
He was welcomed by the party’s Goa Desk in-charge Manikrao Thakare, co-in-charge Anjali Nimbalkar, state Congress president Girish Chodankar, MP Viriato Fernandes and others.
Replying to a reporter’s question, Venugopal said, “If all the parties are sincere about defeating the BJP, then certainly, we are open to a grand alliance of like-minded parties.”
Last week, the Goa Forward Party, a former Congress ally, joined hands with the Aam Aadmi Party to form the ‘Goa First’ alliance. The Congress has already announced a tie-up with the Revolutionary Goans Party. PTI RPS KRK
