Dehradun, Jul 17 (PTI) The Uttarakhand unit of Congress on Thursday marched towards the Raj Bhavan, accusing the state BJP government of “throttling democracy”.

However, this march of Congress workers led by state president Karan Mahara was stopped by the police midway. Later, Mahara and other Congress leaders were taken into preventive custody.

While talking to reporters at the Congress state headquarters, Mahara alleged that the BJP is hatching a conspiracy in the Panchayat elections.

He said that questions are constantly being raised on the functioning of the state Election Commissioner Sushil Kumar regarding the Panchayat elections and the Congress is demanding action against him.

Mahara alleged that the Congress sought time to meet the governor thrice but did not receive any response. PTI DPT NSD MNK MNK
