Congress leaders have lost mental balance; comment on them waste of time: Delhi CM Rekha Gupta

New Delhi, Apr 22 (PTI) Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta on Wednesday slammed the Congress over its president Mallikarjun Kharge’s “terrorist” remark for Prime Minister Narendra Modi, saying the party leaders have lost their mental balance.

Addressing a press conference in Chennai on Tuesday, Kharge initially referred to the prime minister as a “terrorist” while criticising the AIADMK’s alliance with the BJP.

When pressed by reporters to clarify the context of the remark, the Congress chief said he meant the prime minister was “terrorising” the democratic fabric of the country.

“It seems that the Congress people have lost their mental balance and they do not have faith in any constitutional post,” the Delhi chief minister told PTI when asked about Kharge’s remark against PM Modi.

A party that can “curse” the army, “abuse” the courts and say anything about the constitutional authorities, treats the prime minister as an individual and not as a constitutional functionary, she said.

She charged that Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi says anything every day without any “shame” or care for one’s age or the dignity of a post.

“I feel this party and its leaders have become mentally bankrupt, and it’s a waste of time to say anything about the things they say,” she said.

A BJP delegation comprising three Union ministers, including Nirmala Sitharaman, approached the Election Commission earlier in the day, demanding “strictest action” against Kharge for his remark. PTI VIT VN VN
