Hyderabad, Sep 5 (PTI) Throwing a challenge at BRS president K Chandrasekhar Rao, Telangana Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy on Saturday asserted that the Congress would win the next Assembly elections in 2028 by bagging 90 of the total 119 seats or 117 seats if the total number of constituencies increases.
Addressing a public meeting at Nakrekal in Nalgonda district after attending development programmes, he launched a blistering attack on BRS leader K T Rama Rao for his comments questioning his education and said the Congress activists would “bury” the regional party.
“Congress workers will give a forceful reply to you. They will not step back. You have to remember this throughout your life. Congress workers will bury you (politically). This is my challenge. KCR, we will face off in the next elections,” he said.
Recalling that TDP (1994-2004) and Congress (2004-1014) in undivided Andhra Pradesh and BRS (2014-2024) in Telangana won two consecutive terms, he said Congress would return to power in the 2028 elections by winning 90 seats if the total number of seats in the Assembly continue to 119.
If the number of seats rises, Congress would bag 117 seats, he said, without elaborating on how many seats the state will get after delimitation.
Reddy dared Chandrasekhar Rao to attend the monsoon session of the Assembly begining September 7.
He said KCR, who has mostly stayed away from the Assembly since losing power in December 2023, should quit his post if he does not attend the session.
Quoting a government rule that an employee is removed from service if they fail to report for work for 365 days, he asked whether KCR should be dismissed from the post of opposition leader in the Assembly for staying away from the legislature.
He claimed Rs 22 crore was spent on KCR’s salary and other entitlements over the last two years.
Reddy directed state Congress president B Mahesh Kumar Goud to organise public meetings in the Sircilla and Siddipet Assembly constituencies represented by Rama Rao and his cousin T Harish Rao respectively. “We will not let BRS grow,” he said.
Hitting out at Rama Rao for questioning his educational qualifications, the chief minister said he is a cultured person. If he had not been so, the BRS leaders would not have been able to move freely, Reddy said.
Rama Rao is a vicious person who has “thrown out” his sister (K Kavitha) as he does not want to share family property with her, Reddy alleged.
During the Telangana statehood agitation, KCR claimed that he would be a watchdog for Telangana. However, KCR’s son (Rama Rao), daughter (Kavitha) and several family members subsequently entered politics and looted the state, he charged.
When Kavitha returned to Hyderabad after being released from Tihar jail in the Delhi excise policy case, her brother Rama Rao threw her out of home and got her suspended from BRS, he claimed.
He asked whether a person who does not help his sister would work for the welfare of one crore women. Though the daughter was sent away, KCR is now confined to his farmhouse for fear of Rama Rao, he further claimed.
The chief minister also spoke extensively on various welfare schemes of the Congress government, including free travel for women in RTC buses, farm loan waiver, ‘Rythu Bharosa’ investment support scheme for farmers and empowerment of Self Help Group (SHG) women. PTI SJR SJR KH
