Gwalior, Jun 22 (PTI) The Madhya Pradesh Congress will observe a fast on June 25 seeking the installation of a statue of legendary social reformer and jurist Babasaheb Ambedkar on the premises of the Gwalior bench of Madhya Pradesh High Court, a party leader said on Sunday.
The protest event will take place at Surya Namaskar Tiraha and will be attended by state unit chief Jitu Patwari and state affairs in charge Harish Chaudhary, said MP Congress media department head Mukesh Nayak.
“The Congress strongly supports the installation of the statue of Dr Ambedkar on the Gwalior High Court campus. There should be no opposition to this. The party condemns attempts to give the issue a caste-based narrative. The Congress neither endorses casteism nor opposes any community. Our stand is clear. We are with the Constitution, its chief architect and social justice,” he told reporters.
A tussle is underway for the past one month between a group of lawyers opposing the installation and another supporting it. PTI COR LAL BNM
