Shimla, Aug 25 (PTI) Congress and BJP MLAs held protests against each other inside the Vidhan Sabha campus before proceedings began for the fourth day of the Himachal Assembly’s Monsoon session.
While the BJP was raising slogans and brandishing placards against allegedly weakening the ‘Himcare’ and ‘Sahara’ health schemes in the state, the Congress targeted the saffron party, which is in power at the Centre, over inflation and unemployment.
Leading the BJP side outside the House, Leader of the Opposition Jairam Thakur mocked the Congress for its demonstration, remarking that it should prepare to be in opposition soon as the party will be voted out in the next election.
Thakur said the ‘Himcare’ scheme, which began under the BJP in 2019, was known to every child in the state, and lakhs of people were benefiting from the free healthcare services it gave.
The Congress targeted the BJP over various issues, including inflation and corruption. Deputy Chief Minister Mukesh Agnihotri, who led the ruling party’s side, accused the BJP of trying to divert public attention from pressing issues facing the country and the state.
Agnihotri said that the opposition ought to discuss serious issues like the country’s rising inflation and unemployment, but instead, such protests are being staged to distract from these matters.
He asserted that the Congress would contest the upcoming elections with full vigour and that the opposition should “stop dreaming” of a return to power.
