Ranchi, Apr 22 (PTI) Congress national spokesperson Ritu Chaudhary on Wednesday accused the BJP of spreading lies and misinformation in the country regarding women’s reservation.

She alleged the delimitation bill, which was brought by the union government under the guise of women’s reservation, was defeated by the opposition in the House.

“Efforts are being made to defame the Congress. BJP wants to implement delimitation arbitrarily in the country. The delimitation bill presented in Parliament was aimed at breaking the country. The opposition defeated the delimitation bill, which was brought under the guise of women’s reservation,” Choudhary told reporters during a press conference at party headquarters in Ranchi. She alleged the delimitation bill would have significantly impacted the northeastern states, Goa, and the southern states.

“Through the bill, the seats of these states were to be reduced, while increasing the seats in the states where the BJP currently has influence,” she said.

Chaudhary said the opposition supported the BJP and helped pass the Women’s Reservation Bill in 2023. But the government had malicious intentions behind it, which is why the bill was not notified or implemented before the 2024 elections, she alleged.

“The Centre is deceiving the women of the country and lying to the people. The delimitation bill was brought by the government under the guise of women’s reservation, which was defeated by the opposition,” she claimed. PTI SAN SAN RG
