Dharashiv, Aug 29 (PTI) Shiv Sena MP from Maharashtra’s Dharashiv, Omprakash Rajenimbalkar, has urged the state government to conduct a survey of the crops that dried up due to inadequate rainfall in the region so far this monsoon, and demanded that financial aid be given to eligible farmers.
He sent a letter to Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde on August 22 and posted it on his social media account on Friday evening.
“There has been almost no rainfall in the region of Marathwada since the past 45 days. The soybean crop has dried due to unavailability of water. Farmers have faced a financial loss due to this and are in trouble,” his letter said.
“The situation is serious and surveys should be conducted through the revenue and agriculture departments to ascertain the losses. The farmers who have faced losses and are eligible should be given financial assistance,” it added.
The Marathwada region has faced a deficit of rainfall since June 1. The region has so far received 381 mm (77 per cent) of average rainfall in all eight districts against the expected rainfall of 498.8 mm of rainfall.
The rainfall deficit in Rajenimbalkar’s Dharashiv Lok Sabha constituency stood at 25.3 per cent. Dharashiv district has received rainfall of 301.5 mm against the average expected rainfall of 403.5 mm, a report from the revenue department says. PTI AW NP
