Erode (Tamil Nadu) Apr 17 (PTI) Tamil Nadu BJP president Nainar Nagenthran on Friday criticised Chief Minister M K Stalin for adopting a stance of constant opposition toward every initiative and policy put forth by the central government.
The state government’s frequent protests are a result of a fear of defeat in the April 23 elections, he said.
“Our chief minister starts an opposition protest for every single thing. In these five years, he hasn’t created any scheme for the people, only tended to his own family’s comfort. All he has been saying is there’s competition between us and Delhi,” Nagenthran said.
Speaking at a press conference here ahead of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah’s visit to Tamil Nadu, he said Modi is scheduled to speak at a “grand gathering” in Coimbatore on April 18 and Shah is scheduled to conduct a roadshow in the Modakkurichi constituency on April 19.
Addressing the Women’s Reservation Bill, Nagenthran defended the timing of the legislation, noting that it had been under discussion for over a decade and was necessary given the country’s population growth since independence.
He dismissed the state government’s claims that the bill was being rushed through Parliament.
“This is not a bill given in a hurry,” Nagendran clarified, adding that it had previously undergone review by a Select Committee and had been discussed with all party leaders in Parliament.
The BJP leader also addressed allegations regarding the withholding of education loan funds and GST arrears, asserting that no central funds have been reduced.
