Amaravati, Apr 22 (PTI) Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu will lay the foundation for a Rs 5,400-crore ReNew solar manufacturing facility near Visakhapatnam on April 23.

The CM will lay the foundation for a 6 GW solar ingot and wafer manufacturing unit at Anakapalli, which is expected to be a key step in building a resilient domestic solar supply chain, a press release said on Wednesday.

“Naidu to lay the foundation stone for ReNew’s Rs 5,400-crore solar manufacturing facility in Vizag (Anakapalli) on April 23. The project is a key initiative under Andhra Pradesh’s Integrated Clean Energy Policy 2024,” the release said.

By manufacturing critical upstream components such as ingots and wafers, the facility is expected to significantly reduce reliance on imports and strengthen India’s energy security, it added.

The ReNew project is part of the company’s broader Rs 82,000-crore investment commitment to the state, the release said.

The facility is expected to be commissioned within 24 months and generate over 2,100 direct and indirect jobs, further boosting industrial growth and employment in the region.

The state government said the project will advance India’s renewable energy targets, enable domestic manufacturing and backward integration, and reduce import dependence in the solar value chain.

“With its progressive policy framework, robust infrastructure, and proactive governance, Andhra Pradesh continues to emerge as a preferred destination for global clean energy investments,” the release said.

The state government added that the landmark project comes at a crucial time, as India accelerates towards its ambitious target of 500 GW of non-fossil fuel capacity by 2030. PTI STH SSK
