New Delhi, Sep 3 (PTI) Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) spokesperson Saurav Das on Thursday said he and other members of the outfit will visit the Parliament Street police station on Friday seeking action over a viral interview in which a man allegedly boasted about assaulting a student protester’s father during the paper leaks agitation at Jantar Mantar.
Das said the CJP members would reach the police station at 10 am to seek justice for student protester Nishu’s father Sanjay, who was attacked during the protest on July 20.
Das was reacting to a clip of the interview of Swatantra Bhardwaj, who describes himself as ‘kattar Hindu’ (hardline Hindu) on his Facebook handle, in which he was seen admitting that he cracked the skull of Nishu’s father during the protest.
In the one-hour interview, which is available on YouTube, Bharadwaj also claimed to have political connections.
“From Day 1, we have not let any student or protester fight this battle alone,” Das said in a post on X.
“Nishu’s father Sanjay ji’s case is harrowing. Gang members like Swatantra Bhardwaj are openly flaunting that they attempted murder on Sanjay ji, who was simply peacefully protesting for NEET students. Sanjay ji was brutally attacked and barely survived,” he said.
The CJP said the clip showed him openly admitting to the attack.
“This guy is openly admitting that he attacked people at Jantar Mantar and that BJP leaders provided him immunity from police action afterwards,” it said in a post on X.
“How much more openly does someone have to admit it before @DelhiPolice takes action?” it said.
However, Bharadwaj’s claims regarding his political connections or intervention in the police action have not been independently verified.
CJP founder Abhijeet Dipke separately accused the Delhi Police of failing to act against those allegedly involved in the Jantar Mantar attack.
“DCP Sachin Sharma gave a free pass to the goons at Jantar Mantar, refusing to take action or arrest any of them,” Dipke alleged.
“When our representatives went to speak to him, he threatened them, saying, ‘Ek baar tum aur Dipke haath lago, will beat you black and blue’,” he claimed.
Dipke further alleged that Sharma was the same officer who allowed a truck loaded with stones to be parked at Jantar Mantar before the march.
“He is the blue-eyed boy of the regime,” Dipke said.
He recounted his own interaction with the DCP after the alleged attack.
“When this attack happened, I personally went to the DCP and asked him to arrest these goons. The DCP replied, ‘We can’t arrest people randomly’,” Dipke said.
“I told him, ‘The attack happened right in front of the police. How can you say you can’t arrest them?’ To which the DCP replied, ‘You are free to go to the courts’,” Dipke said.
“Such is the attitude of Delhi Police,” he added.
The allegations made by Dipke against Sharma could not be independently verified either.
The CJP alleged that Sanjay was seriously injured in the attack and it has been seeking stringent action against those responsible.
The July 20 demonstration was led by the CJP against the NEET exam paper leak.
The outfit subsequently called off its nationwide agitation following the resignation of Dharmendra Pradhan as the education minister, which was one of the key demands of the protesters.
