Patna, Jun 6 (PTI) Union minister Chirag Paswan on Saturday declared Ashraf Ansari, a spokesman of his Lok Janshakti Party (Ram Vilas), as the party’s candidate for biennial elections to the Bihar legislative council.
Paswan made the announcement on his X handle, recalling Ansari’s long association with his late father Ram Vilas Paswan.
Elections are scheduled for nine seats of the 75-strong Vidhan Parishad, in addition to by-poll to the seat vacated by JD(U) president Nitish Kumar, who is now a Rajya Sabha MP.
With LJP(RV) throwing its hat in the ring, the number of candidates from the NDA, excluding the one for the by-poll, has reached eight.
On Friday, the BJP had announced its four candidates, including Bhojpuri superstar Pawan Singh, who will make his debut in the legislative council, and national spokesman Sanjay Mayukh, who will run for a third consecutive term.
Besides, the JD(U) had declared three candidates, including Nitish Kumar’s son Nishant, who became a minister last month. PTI NAC RG
